Well, me and my three girls are getting ready for a wild and crazy time in Vegas.
When that fortune teller told me a long time ago that I'd be sharing a room in Vegas with three beautiful girls, this wasn't what I was expecting. Nevertheless I am still excited about going. This will be the girls first trip to Las Vegas. I figure if Tiger Woods can start golf at 3 years old, Lauren and Marissa can start learning poker at 5 and 3. Except I am not really looking forward to the 110-degree heat, especially with a very pregnant wife, but it is for our friend, Debbie McGowan's 40th birthday. Did I mention she was turning 40? Okay, I better stop, since I'm in enough trouble from her after my prior blog.
Can't wait to see the reaction from the girls when they see all the lights and stuff. Tomorrow we'll be lounging around the pool at either Monte Carlo or the Flamingo. It'll depend on which hotel has the more kid-friendly pool. The Flamingo (where we are staying at) advertises that their pool is "European style," not exactly sure what that means (waiters in kilts and waitresses in wooden shoes??), so maybe we'll go there. It's always nice to expose the kids to different cultures.
Lauren continues to enjoy kindergarten. However, she did mention that a boy laughed at her yesterday and said her hair looked funny, and that she had boy's hair. This comes after another day when another boy laughed at her because she was using hand sanitizer. She is a little sad about this. But I just had to explain to her that boys are sometimes stupid and dirty, and if she wanted I'll go to school with her an have a little talk with these boys. She said, "daaddy". While I was afraid this might happen and was even expecting it, it is still heartbreaking to hear and see how sad she is when she talks about it. These are the times I wish she went to school with her cousins, AJ and Matt, and even Maddie (who is a year older and a foot taller than her), to help watch over her. Like I mentioned, she still likes kindergarten, but I think some of the excitement is gone.
Upcoming important dates:
Lauren next MRI is Nov. 5th.
New baby is due Nov. 6th.
Screaming Eagles Club Championship: Oct. 24th & 25th.
The Nihei's: Our Story
On April 1, 2008, our 4-year-old daughter, Lauren, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After her biopsy on April 8th it was determined that she had a bithalamic anaplastic astrocytoma with extension into her brain stem.
In the beginning of March we noticed a personality change in Lauren who normally is a very outgoing and happy-go-lucky kid. She became very clingy and shy. She didn't want to talk on the phone anymore, or play on the slide with the other kids at pre-school. By mid-March, Lauren started complaining about headaches. Her pediatrician thought it might be a sinus infection or that she may need glasses. He put her on antibiotics and we made an eye appointment.
A few days later when she started holding her head funny and her headaches returned we insisted on a CT scan. That's when her pediatrician sent us to the ER at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) for a CT scan, and when our world was turned upside down and our nightmare began...
