View from our room.
We spent a very hot weekend in Las Vegas, but it was dry heat, not sure what that means when it was 110 degrees (which was a record), but that's what everybody always says. Dry heat. All I know it was very HOT. And if it was hot for me, you know it was really hot for Hilary, who is very pregnant.
The last time me and Hilary were in Vegas was during our shot-gun wedding in May of 2003. Either I'm getting old or things have really changed there. I don't remember it being such a night club scene. The seediness sure seem more in the open and obvious now. None the less, we still had a good time. Besides the kids are still to young to really know what was going on around them. It was fun to hang out with the Shiu's and the McGowan's. Did I mention we went to Vegas to celebrate Debbie McGowan's 40th birthday. 40! wow!
Question of the weekend: Marissa asked if Casino was spanish for hotel.
Most inappropriate show: The pirate show at Treasure Island titled: Sirens of TI. 3 year old Tyler McGowan was very excited about seeing the pirate show. Sitting on his dad's shoulder with his pirate sword in hand, the show opened with 10 or so, sexy and scantly cladded sirens (girls) who capture a pirate, tie him up and try to seduce him. I could not believe my eyes, it was Awesome! But we (me and Bill) slowly and reluctantly realized that it was probably a little inappropriate for the kids. Debbie, of all people, kept insisting we stay a little longer, because she was so sure they would start fighting soon (Tyler really wanted to see the fighting and sword battle). But it kept becoming more and more x-rated. We finally left midway through. So maybe it eventually became more pirately, but I doubt it. I let you know after I watch it again without the kids.
This weekend we're heading up to the Bay Area to visit my side of the family. This will be probably be the last chance this year, since the baby is due in Nov.
The Nihei's: Our Story
On April 1, 2008, our 4-year-old daughter, Lauren, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After her biopsy on April 8th it was determined that she had a bithalamic anaplastic astrocytoma with extension into her brain stem.
In the beginning of March we noticed a personality change in Lauren who normally is a very outgoing and happy-go-lucky kid. She became very clingy and shy. She didn't want to talk on the phone anymore, or play on the slide with the other kids at pre-school. By mid-March, Lauren started complaining about headaches. Her pediatrician thought it might be a sinus infection or that she may need glasses. He put her on antibiotics and we made an eye appointment.
A few days later when she started holding her head funny and her headaches returned we insisted on a CT scan. That's when her pediatrician sent us to the ER at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) for a CT scan, and when our world was turned upside down and our nightmare began...
