Just received word that Auntie Say-Say (Sarah), a nurse at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, who is single, who was diagnosed in August with a brain tumor, who has had two (brain) surgeries and has been undergoing chemo, was laid-off/fired yesterday for missing too many days of work. She was the told by HR that her contract states that they have the "right" to terminate her employment if she misses "X" amount of work days. I can not express how disgusted and pissed off I am at LBMC. And yes, it does state that in her contract, but does that mean they have to exercise that right? The motto on their Home Page is "Excellence in Health Care." They also advertise heavily about their "World Class Cancer Care," which may be true as long as you don't work there. What irritate me the most is, you would think that a hospital/medical provider would be more empathetic towards someone battling cancer. What is she supposed to do about insurance? She'll have COBRA, but that is expensive and how is she supposed to pay for it without a job? Like she doesn't have enough stuff to worry about. Like I said, I'm just so disgusted right now.
