Celebrity sighting:
Jessica Biel and Josh Groban visited the day hospital last week. None of our nursing friends even bothered to text us, and we were in the regular hosptial too, only a 2 minute walk away. Thanks a lot. Not that I know who Josh Groban is, but I wouldn't have minded meeting Jessica Biel. Today Eva Longoria was on oncology floor of the regular hospital, but of couse we were in the day hospital, oh also some Avenger area football players were there too. A couple of the people staying at the Ronald McDonald House showed us pictures they took with Eva. She is tiny! We have yet to meet any celebrities, but the hospital people say a lot of celebrities come around during christmas time so maybe we'll meet somebody. Supposely, Kobe Bryant is going to be coming by soon. Being a Golden State Warrior fan, that doesn't do much for me, but for some reason, Lauren and Marissa LOVE Kobe. I have no idea where that came from. I think they just like saying his name.
On a side note:
Lauren is doing well. Her counts are still at zero, but she is feeling, acting and looking better and better each day. She also received platelets today (thanks kathy and granny). Tonight the Tzu-Chi Buddist Relief Foundation came by the Ronald McDonald House. They provided both dinner and entertainment. The entertainment being singing and dancing. Lauren had a Blast doing the chicken dance and the hoki-pokie. It was so nice to see Lauren really enjoying her self.
The Nihei's: Our Story
On April 1, 2008, our 4-year-old daughter, Lauren, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After her biopsy on April 8th it was determined that she had a bithalamic anaplastic astrocytoma with extension into her brain stem.
In the beginning of March we noticed a personality change in Lauren who normally is a very outgoing and happy-go-lucky kid. She became very clingy and shy. She didn't want to talk on the phone anymore, or play on the slide with the other kids at pre-school. By mid-March, Lauren started complaining about headaches. Her pediatrician thought it might be a sinus infection or that she may need glasses. He put her on antibiotics and we made an eye appointment.
A few days later when she started holding her head funny and her headaches returned we insisted on a CT scan. That's when her pediatrician sent us to the ER at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) for a CT scan, and when our world was turned upside down and our nightmare began...
