Lauren is doing amazingly well. She has been in such a great mood and has been so affectionate. Last night she wanted to just cuddle with me on the coach and watch a movie. When I didn't have my arm around her, she'd say, "Daddy, you're not cuddling me." It's just so nice to see the old Lauren coming back. While I have faith and hope, a part of me is very scared to let my guard down too much and start thinking and planning too far ahead into the future.
Lauren needs to go to the CHLA tomorrow for blood work. They need to test her blood three times before we start her next and FINAL round of chemo on 11/14. She'll have one more blood test on the 13th when she is up there having her MRI. We'll meet with Dr. Finlay right after her MRI to discuss the results. This is AWAYS a time of high anxiety. Just the thought of us waiting in the room for Dr. Finlay and Anna, is make my stomach hurt. I am positive there will never be a time when these MRIs become just routine and stress free. At least Lauren is looking forward to it, she is already salivating about her lobster (it's become a tradition that after each MRI, we go out for lobster dinner).

On April 1, 2008, our 4-year-old daughter, Lauren, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After her biopsy on April 8th it was determined that she had a bithalamic anaplastic astrocytoma with extension into her brain stem.
In the beginning of March we noticed a personality change in Lauren who normally is a very outgoing and happy-go-lucky kid. She became very clingy and shy. She didn't want to talk on the phone anymore, or play on the slide with the other kids at pre-school. By mid-March, Lauren started complaining about headaches. Her pediatrician thought it might be a sinus infection or that she may need glasses. He put her on antibiotics and we made an eye appointment.
A few days later when she started holding her head funny and her headaches returned we insisted on a CT scan. That's when her pediatrician sent us to the ER at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) for a CT scan, and when our world was turned upside down and our nightmare began...
