The Nihei's: Our Story

On April 1, 2008, our 4-year-old daughter, Lauren, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After her biopsy on April 8th it was determined that she had a bithalamic anaplastic astrocytoma with extension into her brain stem.

In the beginning of March we noticed a personality change in Lauren who normally is a very outgoing and happy-go-lucky kid. She became very clingy and shy. Her pediatrician thought it might be a sinus infection or that she may need glasses. He put her on antibiotics and we made an eye appointment.

Update:
Just to clarify. I don't know for sure that we have the dreaded "black mold" or that we even have mold for sure. All I know is that when I pulled back the carpet there is something that appears to be moldish in appearance and is black. Also, I've been having headaches and have a sore throat. When I read about black mold on-line it said black mold can cause flu like symptoms. But this doesn't mean a lot since some people think I'm a hypochondriac (one of the reason I'm not able to watch ER or any other medical shows), however, Hilary has also been suffering from headaches, too. So maybe, just maybe, we do have a mold issue. Maybe.
